Seagate To Offer 300 Tb Hard Drive In 2010

The technology moves forward so, 300 TB on a 3.5 inch hard drive may not seem so great in 2010. But here in 2007, is a lot of data, especially when Seagate’s largest hard drive capacity is 750GB miserable in comparison. Correction-The 300 TB is actually terabits, and not terabytes. Therefore, the Seagate drive new store in 2010 approximately 37.5 terabytes, and while it is little more than 10 times smaller than an actual unit of 300 terabytes, which is still huge compared to the units we use today day. And who knows what we will have by 2011, or 2012!

TigerDirect

The technology used today to expand hard drive capacity is called perpendicular recording, where bits are recorded on a hard drive vertically, instead of horizontal, allowing many more bits to be recorded in the same physical space.

To shoot the 37.5 terabyte (or 300 terabit) rabbit from a hat, technology comes to the rescue once again. This time, Seagate will use a technology called heat-assisted magnetic recording (MRHA). They do not detail exactly how this works, but one square inch of disk space can store 50 terabits of data.

According to a Joystiq report line, this is enough to store all the library ‘of Congress, “without using any compression. It will also be sufficient to store 6,144 50 GB Blu-ray. That would be tens of thousands of standard DVDs, hundreds of thousands of CDs and probably billions of photos.

There are concerns about loss of 37.5 terabytes of data to a hard drive crash, but if 37.5 is really the standard TB in 2010, the purchase of a replacement back to 37.5 TB all for being so expensive . Best defragmentation tools dramatically speed up, or a defrag might take days – unless, as mentioned, is using a file system as NTFS does not need defragmentation.

You do not hear much these days about holographic storage or will be in 2010, nor do we know how much storage capacity flash offered in 2010. However, an iPod nano sporting 1 TB of storage in the flash memory can be a reality before 2010, too.

Storage. It really is the answer for the space we need for our digital lives. Space is the final frontier, after all, although I’m sure Captain Kirk would laugh at the idea of flying the spacecraft impossible immense business through the 300 terabits of content in an area of 3.5-inch hard drive source.

HDMI To VGA Cable

HDMI To VGA Cable

HDMI To VGA Cable

Compared to setting up all the connections, buying a flat screen HDTV is the easy part. Indeed, connecting the correct cables to the right inputs and outputs of the proper equipment can be a challenge, especially for those who aren’t tech-savvy, so make sure you read the basics first before you take on the task.

Types of Connections

Deal Of The Day

Usually, a flat screen HDTV carries two basic types of connections – analog connections and digital or HD connections, although some new ones only come with the latter. Analog connections are comprised of radio frequency (RF), composite video and S-video connections, which can be used to connect cable boxes, VCRs, DVD players, antennas and some game consoles, of which S-video has the capability of delivering the highest video quality. There are also analog audio connections for older audio receivers and stereo components.

HD connections, on the other hand, consist of component video or YPbPr, FireWire or IEEE 1394, VGA or PC input, DVI and HDMI connections, which are what you should be looking for if you want to enjoy the highest video and audio quality from your HDTV. Check for HDMI connections, in particular, since these allow you to get superb video and audio quality from most HD sources, including HD cable boxes, Blu-Ray players, surround sound speakers, HDTV tuners and newer game consoles.

Connecting Your Cable Box

To get cable on your HDTV, you simply have to connect the wire running from the cable outlet to the box then plug the box to the back of your HDTV using an RF, composite, S-video or HDMI connection, depending on the type of cable box and the input you have available on your HDTV. If you want to record your favorite shows on an HD DVR like a TiVo box, you have to connect your cable box to the DVR first instead of connecting it directly to the HDTV, then connect the DVR to the HDTV via the connections provided.

Connecting your Speakers

To enjoy the superior sound quality offered by your HDTV, it is recommended that you connect external speakers, whether a pair of stereo speakers or four, six or seven surround sound speakers. You cannot connect them directly to your HDTV, though. Rather, you have to connect them first to the AV receiver that comes with the system then connect the AV receiver to the HDTV. Make sure you connect the wires to the right ports on the receiver. For example, if the pair of wires are coming from the front right speaker, they should be connected to the inputs labeled front right, specifically to the ports that match the color of each.

Connecting Your Computer

You may also want to use your flat screen HDTV as your computer monitor. If you do, you will need to get a high quality video card for your computer then connect the CPU to the HDTV via the output provided on the card. If the card only has an S-video, component video or VGA output, you will need to run an audio cable from the soundcard of the CPU to the HDTV, as well. You can also connect your laptop to your HDTV if you want to use it as your DVD or Blu-Ray player, which is especially a good idea if your laptop has an HDMI output.

Connecting Your Game Console

You can also enjoy playing video console games on your flat screen HDTV. In fact, most HDTVs have a dedicated gaming mode that disables video processing to eliminate controller delay. There are two ways to connect your game console – through your AV receiver or directly to your HDTV. Either way, the type of cable you need depends on your game console. Wii game consoles have component video outputs while Xbox and PlayStation consoles have HDMI for superior video quality.

As for your other equipment, simply look at their available outputs then shop for the correct cable. Don’t hesitate to ask at the electronics store if you’re not sure about which cable you are looking for. Your set-up depends on the types of equipment you have as well as how many of them you want to use with your flat screen HDTV. If you are using a lot of equipment, you might want to go with a wireless hub so the back of your HDTV isn’t too crowded. You might want to get a universal remote control, as well.

What Is A HDMI Cable

What Is A HDMI Cable

What Is A HDMI Cable

What’s the Difference Between HDMI Cable and Component Cables

Putting aside picture quality, the reason you should use the HDMI cable is that it carries the HDCP signals, component does not. If the source device, say a cable box, looks for the HDCP handshake, and doesn’t get it, it Will not output an HD signal. So if you want to watch HBO in HD from a cable box, you have to use HDMI or DVI.

TigerDirect

I use the component cables. Then again, I spent about $60 on them (gold plated ends, large conductors, thick shielding, etc) for both the video components and audio channels. And, I bought them a few years ago, before HDMI cables were even around. The difference in performance between top-end component video cables and HDMI cables is negligent. But, if you just use standard RCA cables – like the cheap ones the cable TV company gives you – you won’t get as good of quality as the HDMI cables.

As HDMI cable connections become more and more widely used, we are often asked: which is better, HDMI or component video? The answer, as it happens, is not cut-and-dried.

First, one note: everything said here is as applicable to DVI as to HDMI; DVI appears on fewer and fewer consumer electronic devices all the time, so isn’t as often asked about, but DVI and HDMI are essentially the same as one another, image-quality-wise. The principal differences are that HDMI carries audio as well as video, and uses a different type of connector, but both use the same encoding scheme, and that’s why a DVI source can be connected to an HDMI monitor, or vice versa, with a DVI/HDMI cable, with no intervening converter box.

The upshot of this article–in case you’re not inclined to read all the details–is that it’s very hard to predict whether an HDMI connection will produce a better or worse image than an analog component video connection. There will often be significant differences between the digital and the analog signals, but those differences are not inherent in the connection type and instead depend upon the characteristics of the source device (e.g., your DVD player) and the display device (e.g., your TV set). Why that is, however, requires a bit more discussion.

Several people a day are searching for an interconnection solution by trying to connect HDMI to Component outputs through a cable for their high-definition equipment. Unfortunately, this isn’t a matter of rearranging wires and having the right type of connector. There is a fundamental analog versus digital incompatibility problem similar to the upcoming digital broadcast TV switchover versus your current rabbit ears that receive analog broadcast signals. They aren’t compatible and leave people confused just like the poor fellow in the commercial.

Component video is based on an analog format. With analog signals, the voltage signal on the wire is in a wave format and how the wave changes in height is what is important. Theoretically it has an infinite number of values between zero and the maximum, somewhat like the variable windshield wipers I had on an old Thunderbird. With the HDMI or DVI format, these are based on digital signaling. Digital as you probably have heard, uses ones and zeros with a series of pulses all at the same height and they are either present or missing. At the other end, processing equipment reassembles the information. In a 4-bit binary coding, you can have 1 of 16 different values as 4 1′s and 0′s assembled as a group can have 16 different combinations. So equipment at the other end of the cable that is detecting signals and looking for analog sine waves would put out total gibberish if it just received pulses of 1′s and 0′s.

Some solutions are very easy. If an HDMI or DVI output is available on both boxes, use those. The difference between DVI and HDMI is that HDMI caries the audio in addition to the video signals. But DVI is just as good and other than the expense of an extra audio cable, that will solve your problem. If you were trying to use the Component outputs because you already had the HDMI port tied up, they make HDMI switch boxes that are fairly inexpensive where you can plug multiple HDMI cables in on one side with one output on the other.

Via component cables an analog signal is transfered. HDMI is digital. Among other things this has the following advantage: As long as the data is transferred correctly you have the perfect image data arriving at your TV. There won’t be a single pixel difference in what the ‘sending’ device puts out and what reaches your TV. Component signals (as all analog signals) can vary in quality and you can get disturbances.

So actually: At first glance HDMI cables might appear more expensive than component cables, but that’s not entirely true. For HDMI the requiered quality of the cable is related to the length you need. If you only need to cover a short distance (two or three meters) a cheap cable will give you the best possible result that could ever be achieved by any means … it’s digital … the cheap cable has no influence on the image quality … just like the network cable your computer uses to hook up to the inet has no influence on the image quality of videos you download / stream.

Of course this doesn’t mean component is bad: Among affordable analog video connections it’s probably by far the best, but HDMI just has the advantage of not having to care about the signal being unintentionally “affected” by outside influences during transfer. So if you can: HDMI is the better choice.

High definition multimedia interface Wires

High-definition multimedia interface can be a compact audio video user interface for transmitting uncompressed electronic data. It represents a digital alternative to client analog requirements, including radio frequency coaxial cable television, composite movie, S-Video, SCART, component movie, D-Terminal, or VGA. 10m Hdmi cable links electronic video player-such as set-top boxes, upconvert DVD gamers, Hi-def DVD gamers, Blu-ray Disc gamers, AVCHD camcorders, private personal computers, video game consoles such as the PlayStation three, Xbox 360, and AV receivers-to compatible electronic audio equipment, pc monitors, and electronic televisions.High definition multimedia interface supports, on a single cable television, any uncompressed Television or Pc video clip format, which includes regular, enhanced, and high-definition online video; up to 8 channels of compressed or uncompressed electronic audio along with a Client Electronic devices Manage connection. The Client Electronic devices Handle makes it possible for High-definition multimedia interface equipment to control every other when required and permits the user to run various gadgets with 1 remote manage handset. Mainly because High-definition multimedia interface is electrically compatible with the signals utilized by Electronic Visual Interface, no signal conversion is essential, nor is there a loss of movie top quality when a DVI-to-HDMI adapter is used. As an uncompressed connection, HDMI (high-definition multimedia interface) is independent in the a variety of digital tv requirements applied by individual units, for instance ATSC and DVB, as they are encapsulations of compressed MPEG online video streams. The HDMI (high-definition multimedia interface) normal was not created to consist of passing closed caption data to the television for decoding. So any closed caption stream has being decoded and included as an image in the online video stream prior to transmission more than an Hdmi cable being viewed on the DTV. This limits the caption style to only that decoded at the source preceding to HDMI (high-definition multimedia interface) transmission. This also prevents closed captions when transmission more than HDMI (high-definition multimedia interface) is essential for upconversion.High definition multimedia interface products started shipping in late 2003. Above 850 client electronics and Pc firms have adopted the Hdmi specification. In Europe, possibly DVI-HDCP or High definition multimedia interface is integrated inside High definition ready in-store labelling specification for Television sets for HDTV, formulated by EICTA with SES Astra in 2005. High definition multimedia interface commenced to seem on client HDTV camcorders and digital nonetheless cameras in 2006. Shipments of Hdmi were predicted to exceed that of DVI in 2008, driven largely through the consumer electronics market.

Even though no optimum length for an HDMI cable is specified, signal attenuation-dependent about the cable’s building good quality and conducting materials-limits usable lengths in practice.High-definition multimedia interface 1.3 defines two cable groups: Type 1-certified wires, which happen to be tested at 74.5 MHz and Group 2-certified cables, which have been tried at 340 MHz. Classification 1 High-definition multimedia interface cables are being marketed as Regular and Classification two High-definition multimedia interface wires as High Speed. This labeling guideline for HDMI (high-definition multimedia interface) cables went into impact on October 17, 2008. Category 1 and 2 wires can possibly encounter the needed parameter requirements for interpair skew, far-end crosstalk, attenuation, and differential impedance, or they are able to satisfy the essential nonequalized equalized eye diagram requirements. A High-definition multimedia interface cable television of about five meters may be manufactured to Class 1 specs simply and inexpensively by utilizing 28 AWG conductors. With far better good quality building and resources, such as 24 AWG conductors, an 10m Hdmi cable can attain lengths of as much as 11 meters. A lot of Hdmi cables below five meters of length that were created prior to the High definition multimedia interface 1.three specification can work as Category two cables, but only Group 2-tested wires are guaranteed to operate.

I love my 765th I must admit that I’m still learning what you can do. Sometimes I think it’s like HAL 2001 Odyssey. I think he thinks. Think about how the owner can be scary ….

Installation was simple. I have this connected to my PS3, FiOS speakers (Subwoofer Dayton and Mirage). He knocked my socks when I heard the Lord of the Rings. I would say is “Shiver Me Timbers” When I heard the song of war Oruki … Seriously. I’m not kidding. I got it from Electronic Expo for many. I can not say enough about E-Expo. Even better

The yamaha RXV765 is a pretty good receiver but I just returned mine and went with the Denon AVR1910. The Audyssey MultEQ , On-screen display , Audyssey Dynamic EQ are a killer. I even think it has a little more power, low level detail is much better. I used the coupon code WS901X5750 at [...] and my discount was $181.27 so I got this shipped for $396.72!. The AVR1910 is worth looking at.

Great Receiver – Great Value

Waited until a reasonably priced receiver came out with all of the bells and whistles. Glad I did. The quality of the sound from this Yamaha blows away the Sony I bought 5 years ago and the Onkyo I had before that. I have a 5.1 setup with Paradigm Speakers and this finally set them free. Turned on LOTR and a Bourne Series and …. wow. Even my son jumped up when the surround sound kicked in… Manual is easy to follow but seems to leave out some of the finer details on configuration. The support group at the Yamaha website helped but turnaround on questions seems to be about 48 hours….

This is a great receiver for this price. When I look at what I would have spent just a few years ago for a V1400 or V2400… I’m a happy guy.

Best Buy Budget!

I have been buying stereo products since the 60′s, all kinds of amps, pre-amps, components of all types. I have modified and tweeked them. This Yamaha is my 3rd on since ’95, and this has been the most complex and simple to use one yet. The HDMI technology is awesome, as well as other features. This unit weighs less than the previous units, I suspect that the output transformers are smaller than in the past, this may effect the RMS capacity?? With the efficiency of the speakers today, at least the ones I am using, it sounds quit sufficient. The best unit on the market today for the money.

This receiver meets all my expectations. I combined it with a Yamaha NS-SP1800BL 5.1 Suround speakers and the new Samsung UN55B8000 55 Inch 1080P 240 Hz LED HDTV. The receiver’s various controls over the inputs and the outputs of the sound system are perfect. Combine the above with its controls of a Blu Ray player and everything comes alive. Unbelievable

I bought this model to replace an older Yamaha receiver and was amazed at the difference in sound quality coming from the same set of speakers. Setup is incredibly easy. Yamaha provides a small microphone that you put where you listen from. The amp sends out a series of sounds that the microphone analyzes and sets all settings based on the results. The only disappointment was not getting HD radio at this price level.

Yamaha RX-V765BL 665

Works beautifully on the whole, particularly with the Orb Mod 2 speakers I installed. Listened to Gustavo Dudamel’s first outing with the LA symphony on the 7 channel setting and it was absolutely gorgeous. Only drawback is it assumes my TV will be connected by HDMI but the only HDMI connector on my Panasonic TV is needed for the HD DVR. So the readings, when I was testing the speaker layout and volumes, did not come up on screen – had to play it by ear – and I also cannot use the TV button on the remote to turn on the TV. But it works fine on AUDIO 1, the alternative connection. Overall, very, very pleased. Amazon service and speed of delivery exceeded expectations, so I’m happy to give them a plug.

RX-V765 – was worth the wait.

I had been looking at several of the Yamaha models through the spring of 2009, as well as its competitor’s (Sony, Onkyo, Denon), for an upgrade of my ancient Sony receiver (one of the first Pro-logic receivers). I just installed a set of Definitive Technology Mythos speakers ordered through Amazon.com, including a power-hungry Mythos Three center channel. I wanted this receiver to be the core of my Home Theater as it’s primarily use for improving my Sony Blu-ray and TiVo Series3 HD DVR experience.

Sports, such a baseball is vivid with the upscale feature from 1080i to 1080p (although it has not yet improved the performance of my Seattle Mariners). 1080i broadcast shows such as Chuck, both sound and look great.

The optional YDS-11SL iPod dock works well with both a 4th generation Nano and an 80G iPod Classic, including the videos.

What is worth the wait is the clean layout on the back, the heft of the discrete amp, and the Blu-ray friendly support with both the scene button and the Decoders for HD audio formats: Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. Yes they do make a difference in your home theater experience.

The audio calibration microphone works as advertised. Silent Cinema (headphone mode) is also a nice feature.

What could be improved – You need to keep the manual next to you for the first week to figure out some of the controls such as accessing all of the iPod controls with the dock. I was also sorry to see HD Radio(tm) missing from this “top of the mid-range” Yamaha’s. The older RX-V863 has it, but this one doesn’t. Also the four scene buttons are not programmable. I wanted to program the TV scene button for my TiVo (HDMI #2), no luck.

In the end, if you are looking for a quality receiver that performs well on both movies and music, and can drive your amp hungry speakers to their potential, look no farther that this RX-V765. It really was worth the wait.
