When using HDMI cable for inputs from Digital Cable box and PS3 to TV, how do I separate audio?
I have a completely separate surround sound system with DVD etc and want to utilize the audio only from my cable box and my PS3 but can’t get anything going using red and white sound jumpers from TV out or PS3 out or cable box out, why? I understand that HDMI contains audio as well but is this not possible using the HDMI cables? If so, what do I need and how do I do it?

I’m not sure what your trying to set up so maybe just saying what I have may help you.
On my set up I have cable and my PS3 running to my TV through HDMI and then my sound I run from my TV to my sound system. But my TV has an audio out for surround sound.
So
cable/PS3/DVD/ >>>HDMI in to TV >>>>>TV audio out to sound system.
